Week 5 Day 22

I came across a verse that really spoke to me about the Holy Spirit as our Counselor. This verse talks about how the Holy Spirit teaches and advises us. It comes from 1 Jon 2:26-27:

“I write this to you with reference to those who would deceive you [deduce and lead you astray. But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction {act of anointing}) which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you; [so] then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you much abide in (live in, never depart from) Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him], just as [His anointing] has taught you [to do].

Yesterday we talked about leaning on our own understanding. It is easy to seek our own “truth” and listen to others share their “truth”. The thing we need to remember is that our ultimate truth needs to come from the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. This is to be our only source. I have shared with you what I have learned through studying the fruit of the Spirit, but Holy Spirit needs to be our ultimate authority on what you take away from this study.

Look at what the above passage says. We have received the Holy Spirit and He is abiding in us. The Holy Spirit is in us permanently and is instructing us. Even today He is instructing me. I was writing a message to someone about a project we are working on together. I have not had much time to work on it and I tried to type a message apologizing for this. Every time I typed “I am sorry,” The Holy Spirit was right there telling me to erase it. I tried to write I was sorry without actually saying the words. The Holy Spirit kept encouraging me to delete it. The Holy Spirit wanted me to erase that truth that I did not need to apologize for this. He lovingly kept reminding me that in Him I am complete, and that the other person was not condemning me. He wanted me to rest in His truth.

What truths have you learned from the Holy Spirit during this study? He is always there lovingly reminding us of the truth. We learned that the truth sets us free to thrive!
