Week 5 Day 21
We are in our final week of the study; can you believe it? It has gone by so quickly. It is such a pleasure to see all that you are gleaning from this study. I can see how the Holy Spirit has been working in and transforming our minds.
One thing that we need to be mindful of is slipping back into trusting in ourselves. It is a trap I find myself falling into a lot. I can be scrolling through Facebook and come across a post about the latest diet plan. I can see friends sharing about how they are doing this or that program. On Pinterest I had a motivation board to encourage myself to be the best version of myself that I can be. Through learning about all that I have in the Holy Spirit these things started leaving me feeling dissatisfied.
All of these things that fight for my attention are becoming less of a draw to me. One of the verses we studied today really sums up this desire that I (we) have to chase after the latest and greatest fad. Matthew 6:25 tells us “Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried) about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater [in quality] than food, and the body [far above and more excellent] than clothing.” (Amplified) What this verse says has been so true of me for so long. I have spent so much of my time chasing after the things that will fix me or make me happy.
I did not have this next verse in the study but it goes well with our lesson today. The answer to leaning on our own understanding and chasing for the things that will make us happy is found later in Matthew 6. In verse 33 Jesus says, “But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His Kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things will be given you besides. (Amplified) What we need to be seeking above everything else is Him.
We need to lean on the Holy Spirit and what He teaches us. We do this through renewing our mind. We may find ourselves changing the settings on Facebook so we don’t see the diet adds. I went to my Pinterest account and deleted all the boards that dealt with diets and false motivation. It is really freeing. It is exciting to see you ladies seeking after His kingdom and righteousness right along with me. We can and do thrive as we seek Him first!
Be blessed
